Noctua introduces Redux and IndustrialPPC Fans with New Accessory Kits

Noctua product portfolio has expanded to include independent accessory kits (anti-vibration mounts, extension cables, noise adaptors, 4-3 pin Y cables) and two new fan product lines which are the Redux and IndustrialPPC fans. The redux line addresses cost-aware users by reissuing some of Noctua’s most popular versions and presenting them more affordable bundles, whereas industrialPPC fans are meant for industrial heavy duty applications that need improved cooling operation and complex ingress protection. These fan types are easily distinguishable from the original’s Noctua brown-beige color scheme. Redux features attractive 2 shades of gray while the industrialPPC models are presented in black design.

Noctua Standard vs Redux vs IndustrialPPC Features

The major differences that consumer can find between these 2 major product lines are their features. Redux fans lacks the Standard’s extensive features (Stepped Inlet Design, Inner Surface Microstructures and Metal Bearing Shell) and accessories (noise adapters and extension cable) but compensated for the a price reduction of 20%. IndustrialPPC retains the same features as Standard’s but uses better construction material (Fibre-glass reinforced polyamide instead of Fibree-glass reinforced PBT) and uses three-phase motor type, giving it a better power efficiency and has dust-water-protection. However, this increases the price by 20% and noise +3dB(A) compared to Standard fans. Good thing to know that these products are backed by 6 years warranty. Below are the retail prices for all Redux and industrialPPC models which are currently shipping and will be available shortly.

If you might have noticed, the industrialPPC fans by Noctua uses some special ID such as IP52 and IP67. IP Code refers to the International Protection Marking, the first digit (0-9) represents the Solid particle protection and second digit (0-9) represents Liquid ingress protection. Below are the details (IP67 is better but more expensive)

Solid Particle Protection
5: Dust protected : Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact (dust proof)
6: Dust tight : No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight)

Liquid ingress protection
2 : Dripping water when tilted up to 15° : Vertically dripping water shall have no harmful effect when the enclosure is tilted at an angle up to 15° from its normal position. Test duration: 10 minutes. Water equivalent to 3 mm rainfall per minute
7 : Immersion up to 1 m : Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion). Test duration: 30 minutes. Immersion at depth of at most 1 m measured at bottom of device, and at least 15 cm measured at top of device

I am happy to see Noctua’s direction of separating the accessory kits from the fan products as this lower the prices down a lot, however it only applies for the Redux and IndustrialPPC. In addition, Redux fans loses the honorable features present in Standard fans, which is a sad discovery. I would prefer to have the Standard fans without the accessory kits. Reason being, fan enthusiasts might own a third party fan controller and existing rubber gourmets, so having additional is just a waste of space for them.
